Leycesteria formosa
z. 7 – 10 ht. 6′ – 8′
Remarkable Himalayan shrub with beautiful cascading white flowers with red bracts, followed by shiny edible purple-black berries. The berries have a unique and delicious cocoa / burnt sugar flavour; although they are quite soft and ‘fiddly’ to harvest. The fragrant flowers bloom for the entire summer, attracting bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. The berries are sought after by many different birds, including pheasants. Leycesteria is a woodland shrub, tolerant of heavy clay soil and damp areas of your yard and would prefer to have some afternoon shade. A vigorous grower.
