z. 7 – 10 aka – Barnissotte Noire, Violette de Sollies, Negro Largo
Delicious, large (and stunningly beautiful!) purplish-black figs are produced on a vigorous tree. Well-loved and celebrated in France for its’ great flavour, this fig is rarely found in North America. Originally from the area of Provence. This variety does not produce a ‘breba’ (first) crop so it would prefer to be grown in a cold-frame or a greenhouse on the coast. This is a fig that our Eastern Canadian friends should try growing with their longer summers (eg. as a potted fig to bring in for the winter).
