Ground Covers are tough, hardy, plants that often function as a living mulch. They protect your soil and keep it from drying out. They can often grow as a carpet and choke grass and weeds out of an area – especially valuable around the base of your fruit trees to keep out couch grass. Two edible ground covers that are notable is the exquisite smelling Corsican Mint that gives off its’ fragrance when walked on – perfect along a moist foot path, and the exceptionally healing Gotu Kola plant that has been used in India and throughout South East Asia for centuries to heal the brain and the nervous system. Gotu Kola is better suited to a greenhouse — our low-growing plants have grown very happily in an unheated cold-frame.
