Robinia psuedoacacia

z. 5-9    ht. 50′-75′

Very handsome, fast-growing, nitrogen-fixing tree; improving the fertility of the soil around itself. Fantastic, very high quality firewood tree that can be coppiced (cut) every 5 years or so for a permanent supply of wood. Black Locust makes the best rot-resistant fence posts.

This tree is a beautiful shade tree in its’ own right. The ferny leaflets of the tree cast a light shade that can be underplanted. The very fragrant blossoms that occur in early summer are a great source of nectar for honeybees. The trees make good windbreaks and shelterbelts. A good quality hardwood lumber can be made from the wood. A very easy and useful tree to grow.
